3.200 Curriculum Development, Selection, and Review

    Curriculum
    Curriculum will be determined by the Administration along with a team of faculty considering age appropriateness, standards of instruction, and biblical integration. Determination will be made in the interest of learning for all students.


    Annual K–12 Curriculum Review Process

    Purpose: To evaluate and strengthen a specific academic discipline K–12 in alignment with the school’s mission, Christian worldview, academic standards, and best practices.

    I. Pre-Planning Phase (May–June, Prior School Year)

    1. Identify Review Discipline
      - Rotate disciplines on a multi-year cycle
    2. Appoint Curriculum Review Team. Members can include:
      - Director of Accreditation and Academic Excellence (chair)
      - Division Heads (Lower, Middle, Upper School)
      - Department Chairs or Lead Teachers (K–5, 6–8, 9–12)
      - Campus Principals or Academic Deans
      - Director of Christian Life (if applicable)
      - Learning Support/Special Education representative
    3. Define Objectives & Deliverables
      - What is being evaluated?
      - What is the product?

    II. Phase 1: Data Gathering & Review (August–October)

    1. Collect Existing Curriculum Artifacts
      - Scope and sequence documents / Curriculum Maps
      - Course descriptions and syllabi
      - Current textbook/publisher materials
      - Unit/lesson plans
      - Assessment samples
    2. Review Relevant Standards
      - State standards
      - ACSI accreditation standards
      - Biblical worldview framework
    3. Survey Stakeholders
      - Teacher surveys
      - Student surveys
      - Parent feedback
    4. Conduct Classroom Observations
      - Team members visit selected classrooms to observe teaching practices and materials in use

    III. Phase 2: Analysis & Evaluation (November–January)

    1. Vertical Alignment Review
      - Examine curriculum progression
      - Identify redundancies or gaps
      - Ensure developmental appropriateness
    2. Biblical Worldview Evaluation
      - Assess quality and consistency of biblical worldview thinking
    3. Instructional Materials Review
      - Evaluate for alignment, rigor, worldview, engagement, cost-effectiveness, and support
    4. Assessment Practices Review
      - Evaluate balance of assessments
      - Consider standardized test data

    IV. Phase 3: Recommendations & Planning (February–March)

    1. Draft Recommendations
      - Resource/textbook changes
      - Curriculum map revisions
      - PD needs
      - Budget implications
    2. Present to Leadership Team
      - Present findings
      - Gather input from leadership
    3. Solicit Final Feedback
      - Teacher communication
      - Parent communication (if needed)

    V. Phase 4: Approval & Implementation Planning (April–May)

    1. Finalize Curriculum Revisions
      - Update maps and documents
      - Initiate purchasing
    2. Develop Implementation Timeline
      - Ordering materials
      - PD sessions
      - Adjust assessments or report cards (if necessary)
    3. Communicate Changes
      - Share updates with faculty and parents
      - Update public documents

    VI. Phase 5: Summer Preparation & PD (June-August)

    1. Provide Professional Development
      - Training on new resources
      - Biblical worldview workshops
    2. Final Logistics
      - Distribute materials
      - Configure digital access (if necessary)
      - Update school platforms & documents
