Policy Statement

Microwave ovens located on school property are for staff use only. Students are not permitted to use microwaves at any time during the school day, including during lunch, breaks, or before/after school hours.

Rationale

• Safety Concerns: Unsupervised microwave use can pose fire, burn, and injury risks.
• Time Management: Limiting microwave use reduces long wait times and improves lunchroom flow.
• Cleanliness & Maintenance: Prevents messes and misuse that can damage equipment or require additional cleaning resources.
• Supervision Limitations: Staff availability to monitor proper use is limited during peak hours.
