1.807 Inclement Weather Policy

LCS will make all reasonable efforts to remain open.  School Closures decisions are made by the executive director.

When classes must be canceled or delayed due to inclement weather, notification will be provided to faculty/staff through email and text alert as soon as possible. The information will also be provided to faculty/staff and all current families through local TV stations, LCS website (lcstn.org), social media and text alert. Every effort will be made to issue alerts of school closings or delays by 6:15 a.m.

When our team is determining the decision for the school day, we consider the following areas:

     Stakeholders
We value our families and know that school closures can be difficult for families.
We want to notify families as soon as possible, but we also want to ensure that we have consider all options prior to closing school.

     Students
Student safety is priority. Therefore, we consider our students that are not only passengers, but those that are driving to school. We are blessed to have students from all surrounding counties and realize that weather and conditions can vary greatly from location to location.

     Campuses
Maintenance staff and service providers to work together to treat our driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots as frequently as possible. However, we do want to ensure that our students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors can be on our campuses safely.

     Roadways
We monitor roadways and are in contact with local emergency management, TDOT, and weather service to determine the conditions of roadways.

     Forecast
As a team we monitor weather forecasts from various outlets to determine the most reasonable plan for school.

    Parent Information
    • The responsibility for getting students safely to and from school rests on parents and their designated representatives. Parents are therefore responsible for discerning if road conditions during inclement weather or other emergencies allow for safe travel.
    • In the event of inclement weather, even if school is officially open for classes, parents who do not believe road conditions in their area permit safe travel should not attempt to get their children to school. They should keep their children at home and notify the school that they are doing so. This will be counted as an excused absence.
    • During times of inclement weather (or other school-closing emergencies), the school will notify parents through ParentAlert via text message regarding school-starting delays, early dismissals, and cancellations. Parents may also monitor local television stations and our social media channels for announcements about school-starting delays, early dismissals, and cancellations. All such announcements will also be posted on the website.
