4.904 Long-term Substitute

    long-term substitute is an individual assigned to assume the full teaching responsibilities of a regular classroom teacher or staff member who is on an approved leave of absence for an extended period, typically more than ten (10) consecutive school days.

    Qualifications
    Long-term substitutes must meet the following qualifications:
    • Demonstrate Christian character and agreement with the school’s statement of faith and mission.
    • Hold appropriate educational credentials or relevant teaching experience as determined by the administration.
    • Successfully complete background screening and required onboarding documentation.
    • Complete all required trainin prior to assignment.
    Appointment and Compensation
    • Long-term substitute positions are appointed by the Superintendent or designee.
    • Compensation will be determined based on the length of assignment, qualifications, and budgetary considerations.
    • Long-term substitutes are not entitled to the full benefits of regular employees unless specifically authorized by the Superintendent
    Duties and Responsibilities
    Long-term substitutes are expected to:
    • Provide quality instruction consistent with the regular teacher’s lesson plans and the school’s curriculum.
    • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and classroom management in accordance with school policies.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and administrators.
    • Participate in staff meetings or professional development when requested.
    • Model Christian character and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
    Supervision and Support
    The principal or department supervisor will provide oversight and support to the long-term substitute. Regular communication will be maintained to ensure instructional quality and student progress. The absent teacher or department chair may provide guidance as appropriate.

    Termination of Assignment
    The long-term substitute’s service will conclude upon the return of the regular teacher or at the end of the designated assignment period. The school reserves the right to end the assignment at any time based on performance, conduct, or changes in staffing needs.

    Recordkeeping and Evaluation
    The principal or supervisor may conduct a performance review or observation during the assignment to ensure adherence to school standards and instructional effectiveness. Documentation will be retained in the personnel file.
