4.906 Student Teachers

    A student teacher is an individual enrolled in a college or university teacher preparation program who has been approved to complete part of their required field experience or student teaching placement at LCS under the supervision of a certified teacher.

    Eligibility and Placement
    • All student teacher placements must be approved by the Superintendent.
    • Requests for placement must be submitted in writing by the college or university’s education department.
    • Student teachers must agree to uphold the mission, statement of faith, and core values of LCS.
    • A current background check is required prior to the start date.
    Supervising Teacher Responsibilities
    Each student teacher will be assigned a supervising teacher who is responsible for:
    • Providing mentorship, guidance, and regular feedback
    • Approving lesson plans and observing classroom instruction
    • Communicating with the college or university supervisor regarding performance and progress
    • Ensuring that instruction and classroom management align with school policies and biblical principles
    Student Teacher Responsibilities
    Student teachers are expected to:
    • Conduct themselves in a professional and Christ-like manner at all times.
    • Adhere to all school policies, procedures, dress code, and standards of conduct.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
    • Prepare and deliver lessons that meet the instructional goals of the class under the guidance of the supervising teacher.
    • Participate in meetings and other school activities when appropriate.
    • Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, parents, and staff.
    Evaluation and Feedback
    The supervising teacher and school administration will provide regular evaluations of the student teacher’s performance.
    Formal evaluations may be shared with the college or university as required.
    If a student teacher fails to meet the expectations of Lakeway Christian Schools or violates school policy, the placement may be terminated after consultation with the college or university supervisor.

    Professional and Ethical Standards
    Student teachers serve as role models to students and are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, respect, and Christian character. Conduct unbecoming of a professional educator or inconsistent with the school’s mission may result in dismissal from the placement.

    Duration and Schedule
    The length and schedule of the student teaching experience will be determined jointly by LCS, the student teacher, and the partnering college or university. Adjustments may be made at the discretion of the administration to meet school needs.

    Confidentiality and Recordkeeping
    Student teachers may not access or retain confidential student records except as authorized by their supervising teacher. All evaluation forms and placement records will be maintained by the school administration.
