4.702 Search of Personal Property
Any individual(s) who is reported to possess or under suspicion of possessing a firearm, illegal drugs, or stolen property may be requested to submit to a personal property search. Personal property is defined as backpack, locker, pockets, and/or automobile. The Superintendent and Executive Director will be notified immediately of any violation. The chairman of the Board of Directors will be notified as soon as possible if the individual(s) fail to respond appropriately.

- Searches may include, but are not limited to, items such as bags, purses, briefcases, desks, lockers, file cabinets, vehicles parked on school property, and electronic devices used for school purposes.
- School property assigned to employees (e.g., desks, offices, computers, lockers, and vehicles) remains the property of LCS and may be inspected at any time, with or without notice.
- A search may be initiated when administration has reasonable cause to believe that an employee is in possession of prohibited, stolen, dangerous, or illegal items, or evidence of policy violation.
- Random or mass searches will not be conducted without specific authorization from the Superintendent or designee.
- Searches will be conducted discreetly, professionally, and in a manner that preserves the dignity of the employee.
- When possible, searches will be conducted in the presence of the employee and at least one additional administrator or witness.
- Employees who refuse to cooperate with a reasonable search may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Items subject to confiscation include, but are not limited to, weapons, illegal substances, alcohol, pornography, stolen property, or any materials inconsistent with the school’s mission and Christian values.
- Information obtained through a search will be treated as confidential and shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know.
- Any search resulting in discovery of illegal items or activity will be reported to law enforcement authorities.
- By accepting employment with LCS, employees acknowledge and consent to the school’s right to conduct searches of personal property in accordance with this policy.
