4.203 Telework During Emergencies

This policy establishes guidelines for telework arrangements during emergencies that disrupt normal on-site school operations, such as inclement weather, natural disasters, public health events, or other unforeseen circumstances. The goal is to ensure continuity of essential school functions while maintaining the safety and well-being of employees and students.

This policy applies to all faculty, staff, and administrative employees who may be authorized to work remotely during an emergency situation, as determined by the Superintendent or designated administrator.

    Authorization for Telework
    • Telework may be temporarily authorized when on-campus operations are suspended or limited due to an emergency.
    • The Superintendent, in consultation with the Principal or department head, will determine which positions or functions are suitable for telework.
    • Employees must receive written or electronic authorization before performing telework duties.
    Expectations During Telework
    • Employees are expected to maintain regular communication with their supervisor and be available during normal work hours.
    • Work assignments and deadlines must be completed as directed.
    • Employees should ensure access to necessary technology and maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and professionalism when working remotely.
    • Telework is a temporary arrangement and does not alter an employee’s duties, compensation, or terms of employment.
    Technology and Equipment
    • The school may provide limited access to systems, software, and resources needed to perform essential job functions.
    • Employees are responsible for maintaining the security and confidentiality of student and school information while working remotely.
    • Any use of personal devices for school business must comply with school technology and data protection policies.
    Reporting and Accountability
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring employee performance and ensuring that telework duties are completed satisfactorily. Employees must report any issues that prevent them from fulfilling work responsibilities during the emergency period.

    Return to On-Site Work
Once the emergency condition has been resolved and on-site operations resume, employees are expected to return to their regular work location as directed by their supervisor.

    Non-Eligibility
Certain positions that require an on-campus presence (e.g., maintenance, custodial, food service, or classroom support roles) may not be eligible for telework, except as otherwise approved by the Superintendent.
